These Creative Law Partners Drum Up Business By Singing Legal Advice On YouTube

Performing chart-topping hits like ‘Miranda’ and ‘Don’t Eat Your Weed’ …

Local law firms are famous (infamous?) for rivaling only car dealers in their taste for bizarre, low-budget TV commercials. But even in an industry saturated with head scratching-marketing ploys, Hutson & Harris, a Texas law firm, stands out.

Rather than look into the camera and shout “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS” as many attorneys do, these guys suit up with guitars and write remarkably catchy songs conveying basic legal rights and, in the case of “Don’t Eat Your Weed”—common sense. Sure, that’s a ridiculous title for a song, but as they explain in the video below, it’s more than just a novelty song. In Texas, offenders face more serious charges for attempting to conceal or destroy their drugs than if they simply accepted the misdemeanor associated with personal use pot possession.

Oh, if recreational marijuana use isn’t your jam, maybe you’ll enjoy or value a song that turns your basic civil rights into a slow-swingin’ love song. Because that’s what “Miranda” is.

Their YouTube channel is an archive of many more songs, combining wit, sage legal advice, and some impressive musicianship. I can’t vouch for their efficacy in court, but if you’re trying to convey simple legal premises to someone who may be more creative than analytical, and if you find yourself on the right side of the law, then put the educational aspects aside and just enjoy the music.
