Carla Brauer, founder of Mountain Bed Farm, left her life as a copy editor in San Francisco behind five years ago to explore her passion for local, sustainable, delicious food in a series of farm internships. She fell in love with farm life, and dreamed of one day starting her own.

Fate called Brauer to the Pacific Northwest, where she found property for lease in Sherwood, OR, just a half-hour from the foodie paradise of Portland. Brauer moved to the land at the beginning of this month to start Mountain Bed Farm, a sustainable farm specializing in heirloom, open pollinated, gourmet produce and rare heritage breed poultry, many of which are nearly extinct.
