Theatre for the Free People honors the life and legacy of prominent Brazilian theatre director, writer and activist, Augusto Boal, by applying Theatre of the Oppressed to the digital age, combining new media with traditional creative and performative methods.
Theatre for the Free People is an organization which is dedicated to using the arts as a vehicle for social change. This summer we will return to the Centro de Teatro do Oprimido (Center for the Theatre of the Oppressed) in Rio de Janeiro to engage in an International Arts Exchange. This project will consist of a variety of artistic, cultural and creative engagements, which will further amplify our mission to empower communities and individuals through the arts.
This project will consist of a short documentary film and Theatre of the Oppressed based curriculum/handbook for artists, activists, educators, community organizers and social entrepreneurs.
