Take a Moment to Remember: 23 Years Ago a Gunman Murdered 14 Female Students, Calling them Feminists

On December 6 1989, a man armed with a rifle ordered all male students out of an engineering classroom at École Polytechnique in Montreal, Canada. He then opened fire on the remaining women in the room, shouting: "You're all a bunch of feminists, and I hate feminists!" Fourteen women were killed and ten were wounded. This incident, known as the Montreal Massacre, has become Canada's Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
