I've found there is often a reason why they are not carrying the varieties we are familiar with for Our gardens or the local grocery store. Often they have more hardy, nutritious, flavorful or or better/longer producing varieties than are commercially available. Sometimes, if you're lucky, they'll share a few growing tips or bug warnings with you, or if you're lucky, even a few seeds. I've sent seeds that I have collected to many Couchsurfing people, and gotten the chance to grow delicious vegetables that are no longer available in catalogs. You may even make a new nearby friend who can tell you how to keep your garden growing Well without any chemicals, always a preferable thing in my book!
