Teach me: What is the point?

This site feels like a stylized pinterest with a larger comment and description setup as a facelift to common discussion board systems.
Is it more than that?
Is the real purpose the people who belong to this GOOD community and make change happen?
Have you seen any results come from these posts?
Will it turn into simply another sharing / "look at all these things!" site?
