There's no actual law against women driving in Saudi Arabia. But it's forbidden. Two years ago, Manal al-Sharif decided to encourage women to drive by filming herself driving and posting the video on YouTube. She was jailed for 9 days and later released. But she was undeterred, and Saudi Arabia is now taking small steps towards enhancing women's rights. The traffic police spokesman announced they would only issue traffic violations for women drivers, instead of jail.
