The World's First Cross-Dressing Superhero

Arthur Ashod Pinajian (aka Art Pinajian) was a self-trained cartoonist, and during the Great Depression, a pioneer in a new medium: the comic book. In 1940 he created ‘Madame Fatal,’ the first cross-dressing superhero, for Crack Comics. Madame Fatal was an elderly matron with a Shakespeare-quoting pet parrot, who when needed, would spring into action in times of trouble.
