Triclosan, an active antibacterial agent found in most common hand soaps, body washes, toothpastes, and deodorants has been found to be extremely destructive as it breaks down in the waste water treatment process. Traveling through household drains, the compound has negative effects of the aquatic ecosystems, especially in the Mississippi River and surrounding areas.
