Volunteer tourism is not a novel idea. A quick google search will reveal a dozen different ways to build schools in Nepal or orphanages in Tanzania. Fewer organizations, however, offer ways to engage philanthropists directly in the communities where they invest. Reading Village is doing just that. Twice a year, the nonprofit takes 10 international travelers to rural Guatemala to experience first-hand how the world is changing and how they change it. Next trip: April 25th - May 2, 2013.
