Where The Collaboratory
After a disaster, such as a building collapsing, victims need to be found—and fast. In order for rescuers to reach the victims, they need highly specialized tools that are designed to save as many people as safely as possible. That’s where STEM skills come in.
Without the crucial STEM skills from scientists and engineers, many of the search and rescue tools responsible for saving hundreds of lives would never have been developed. Just ask Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs), who specialize in search and rescue, use a variety of tools to help them act quickly and with life-saving precision.
To raise awareness about how STEM skills are a crucial part of its life-saving success, the Air Force created a collaborative online platform known as The Air Force Collaboratory. It is dedicated to solving some of the toughest science and technology challenges the Air Force faces. Anyone with an interest in STEM can sign up, share ideas, and work alongside Airmen to help solve these challenges. Join in.
