What happened? Researching the impact of immersion experiences
Measuring the impact of a life-changing alternative breaks has been left up to the soft world of case studies. Five years ago Elizabeth Niehaus, now a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Maryland, began researching immersive service learning after having her own catalyst volunteer break trip. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, she’s given teeth to the overwhelmingly positive impact of an AB and set up a framework to learn much more about short and long-term impact.
