This fall in Chicago, in the wake of the largest mass school closing in U.S. history, 50 schools didn't open their doors. So where did all the desks, chairs, books, and other supplies go? Some materials were sent to other schools, but former teachers had one day to go in to the buildings to retrieve supplies. One educator told WBEZ about "having to walk on books strewn across the floor to get to other books she needed for her third graders." And yes, plenty ended up in dumpsters.
