Women Fight Back Against Witch-Branding in India

In rural India, witch-branding has been commonly practiced for generations. Once branded as such, these women are blamed for illnesses or misfortune, ostracized from their communities and often brutally mistreated. The good news is that more women are standing up to their tormentors and education is helping to erode this harmful superstition. One villager, Lakshmi Khadadi, who intervenes on women's behalf, said that going to school until the 10th grade made her reject the practice.
