Take One Minute to Watch This Woman's Time-Lapse Video of Self-Portraits

Stef McDonald

It's surprisingly uplifting to watch this one-minute time-lapse video, which strings together self-portraits a woman took during her year-long treatment for breast cancer. She writes on her blog, "I'm still not completely sure why I took these photos. At first it had to do with documenting the hair saga. But it wound up becoming about something else, too." I really loved this. It's so important to see cancer treatments as a temporary, but life changing, experience. There is so much media focus on the bad that comes with treatments that it can be hard to remember that there is a tangible end. I once heard a cancer survivor describe her experience as "a really, really long and shitty flu, but it gets better and you get your life back eventually"

This is incredible. I came away with a hopeful feeling too.

Glad you watched. I've talked to a few people who said they didn't really want to watch because they thought it would be depressing—but it leaves with more of a hopeful feeling.
