After Trump Disrespected A Fallen Soldier, A GoFundMe Page Raised Over $400K For The Soldier’s Children

The fund was set up by Wilson’s 5,000 Role Models of Excellence Program.

No single gesture can heal the broken hearts in the family of a fallen soldier. But a call of condolences from the president can be a reminder of the importance of their lost family member’s service and a show of support from the country at large.

Sadly, after a call from President Donald Trump, the family of Sgt. La David T. Johnson has been forced to endure even more heartbreak. According to the Pentagon, the 25-year-old Green Beret was killed after being ambushed by ISIS militants in Niger.

Johnson has two children, ages 2 and 6, and his widow, Myeshia Johnson, is pregnant with a third child.

On Tuesday, Trump called Myeshia and other members of Johnson’s family, and Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Florida) listened in on the conference call. According to Wilson, Trump told Johnson her husband “knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt.” Trump’s flippant remark had Johnson in tears. When she hung up the phone, Johnson turned to Wilson and said, “He didn’t even remember his name.”

Of course, Trump denied the reports as fake news.

While the president can’t be bothered to show support for the family of a fallen soldier, Americans everywhere are taking up slack by donating to a GoFundMe page set up for Johnson’s children that aims to raise money for the children’s college education. It started with a goal of $5,000 but — after quickly bringing in more than $400,000 — the new goal is $1 million. The fund was set up by Wilson’s 5,000 Role Models of Excellence Program.
