This Muslim Marine Has the Perfect Response to Donald Trump

Last week, GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump told Yahoo News that he would not rule out “a form of special identification” for Muslims “that noted their religion”—a recommendation that has drawn more than a few comparisons to Nazi Germany. Hours later, Sergeant Tayyib Rashid, a retired Marine from Chicago, posted his response on Twitter:

For those following along at home—Trump has never served in the military.

Rashid’s response quickly went viral. Trump’s comments “really touched a nerve,” the veteran told an NBC affiliate. “As Muslims, we’re told that loyalty to our nation is part of our faith and it was for that reason that I served in the Marine Corps,” Rashid said. “And for Trump to say that, it just really hit me the wrong way.”

It certainly hit other people the wrong way, too, because Rashid’s viral tweet inspired its own viral trend, #MuslimID, which Muslims used to show off their own (intimidating) identification cards.

Bravo to the ingenious, intensely impressive and consistently hilarious Muslims of Twitter.

Your move, Trump.
