Dockside Green: Smart Development in Victoria

Dockside Green, a 15-acre mixed use development in Victoria, British Columbia, looks like an example of the kind of building we need. The development has its own water recycling system, a heating plant that uses local wood waste to provide heat and hot water for the community, and rooftop wind turbines. And that's just the beginning. In fact, it's the highest scoring LEED Platinum project on record.

The project is well integrated into its surroundings as well: It's near downtown and sits along the Galloping Goose cycling trail.

The different subsections of the development have goofy names like "Synergy" and "Balance," but the project seems pretty flawless otherwise. Inhabitat has an overview of the environmental features and The New York Times covered it this week as well.
