Great. Sadly though, it is easier to tackle public transportation when you are single and without children.

More LA residents need to think like this. This year, as a Londoner on a third visit to LA, I was frustrated, but not surprised, to be advised to drive everywhere, by locals ranging from restaurant staff to hotel staff. I defer to public transport no matter what country I'm in (as long as such an infrastructure exists) but LA is the one city I'm actively discouraged from it. If I would've known it was not the preserve of dangerous, socially disadvantaged citizens, as I was made to believe, I wouldn't have spent the small fortune on car rental!

I respect this. As someone with a 90 minute commute each way, I often think about mass transit options but haven't found them. Any suggestions on where to go for LA metro 101?

I usually just use Google Maps! Click "get directions," enter point A and point B, and then select the bus icon instead of the car right above those entries. Metro.net is LA's official website, and it's pretty helpful if you want to know how frequently your bus runs (important if you're not sure what time you'll get to the stop) or if your train/bus is offline one day for construction or an accident (rare, but it happens). Good luck!

Thanks Rosalie! Between you and Alissa I feel like I might be able to tackle this.
