In case you missed it last week, CNN ran a rather harrowing visual feature by Mathieu Young, who documented the plight of El Centro, California, where unemployment hit 30 percent this past year. (Video after the jump.) Thirty percent, as you might guess, would be the highest in the country, and photos tell quite a story.
We're big fans of Young's work-you might remember his "Walkabout," "Waste Management," and "Harvest" Picture Shows from earlier this year. Accompanied by his rather gripping voice-over narrative, these photos offer a unique perspective on joblessness, one where data and analysis take a back seat to the more palpable reality of what happens when an economy falls flat.
