In a recent post, Ben Jervey talked about the fearsome possibility that a hurricane might pass over the oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico and carry onto land. Is it likely to happen? Well, here is a map of the last 50 years of major (category 3, 4, and 5) hurricanes in the Gulf that I made using an NOAA tool:
And here is a projection of where the oil is likely to go if it flows uninterrupted from April 20 to June 20 from the National Center for Atmospheric Research:

Sigh. Maybe BP should hold off on that possible $10 dividend payment and budget a bit more for cleanup.
