Trump offered Elizabeth Warren $1 million to take a DNA test. Now, he won’t pay up.

“Send them your $1M check.”

In 2012, The Boston Globe ran a story that called into question Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s ancestry. While a faculty member at Harvard Law, Warren listed herself as a Native American in an academic directory between 1986 and 1995.

During her tenure, Harvard Law also counted Warren as a minority faculty member.

This prompted claims that she lied about her ethnicity to advance her career. While running for office in 2016, then-Republican candidate Donald Trump routinely referred to her by the race-baiting slur, “Pocahontas,” at his campaign rallies.

Pocahontas was a Powhatan Native American folk hero known for saving Englishman John Smith from being executed at a colonial settlement in Jamestown, Virginia in the 1600s.

On Monday, October 15, Warren released the results of DNA test which revealed with “high confidence” she has a Native American ancestor. The test was performed by Carlos Bustamante, a professor of genetics at Stanford and adviser to Ancestry and 23 and Me.

Back in July, President Trump claimed he would donate $1 million to Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s “favorite” charity if she took a DNA test to prove her heritage.

But now he denies ever making that offer. “I didn’t say that. You’d better read it again,” the president said.

But video of a campaign rally from July, says differently.

“I will give you a million dollars, to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian,” Trump said. “I have a feeling she will say ‘no.’ ”

Warren called out Trump in a series of tweets where she named the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center as her charity of choice.

“NIWRC is a nonprofit working to protect Native women from violence,” Warren said, referring to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. “More than half of all Native women have experienced sexual violence, and the majority of violent crimes against Native Americans are perpetrated by non-Natives. Send them your $1M check.”

Who knows whether Trump will admit that Warren is right and pay the money. But if he says he will, Warren better ask for receipts, Trump has a long history of lying about his charitable donations.
