Australian Photographer Repurposes Vintage Photos Into Fascinating New Stories

Jane Long has breathed new life into the work of a Romanian photographer.

Like most great ideas, Jane Long’s new photography series, Dancing With Costic?, arose completely by accident. The Australian artist had played with Photoshop as a hobby, but after her framer asked if she did restoration work, her creative process kicked into gear. While browsing photos on Flickr to practice her restoration techniques, she came across a collection of photographs by a Romanian war photographer, Costic? Acsinte. The vivid characters in Acsinte’s photos inspired Long to Photoshop them into new contexts, and the results are both humorous and haunting.
