George Seidel

George E. Seidel, University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University, is an expert in technologies that advance animal reproduction in order to propagate valuable genetics. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Inventors. Seidel, a reproductive physiologist, is retired but continues to work part-time with CSU’s Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory. He is an internationally recognized leader in the biotechnology of preimplantation embryos from cattle and horses. The Seidel Laboratory developed and refined techniques such as nonsurgical recovery and transfer of bovine and equine embryos. His laboratory developed a simple, reliable procedure for bisecting embryos to produce identical twins in a variety of species and also developed reliable methods for cryopreservation of embryos. His studies include mechanisms of resistance of embryos to virus infection; in vitro oocyte maturation and fertilization; use of antioxidants for culturing embryos; genetic control of early bovine embryonic development; and sexing semen of bulls and stallions.rnrn
