<br/><br/> Concerned about the concentration of benzene or formaldehyde in your immediate environment? Here's a beautifully designed modular <a href="http://www.psfk.com/2012/08/plant-air-filter.html">filtering system</a> that hydroponically feeds common house plants, leaving their toxic avenging roots exposed to clean your air.<p class="shortcode-media shortcode-media-rebelmouse-image">

</p><p> University of Toronto researchers have designed the "filtration block" using some complicated geometry—see <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrakaidecahedron">tetrakaidecahedrons</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodecahedron">dodecahedrons</a>—and some <a href="http://rad.daniels.utoronto.ca/2011/01/filtration-block/">very simple botany</a>—think spider plants and other office favorites. Explains Elaine Tong on the site for the University of Toronto's <a href="http://rad.daniels.utoronto.ca/">Responsive Architecture at Daniels</a> (RAD) program:</p><blockquote> <p class="p1"> The structure is based on the Weaire Phelan geometry for maximum spatial flexibility. The modules lock together to form a structural wall or ceiling system. Each module is glazed for light exposure, and acts as a micro greenhouse. The plants are sustained by a water misting infrastructure that calibrates the delivery of water though the use of humidity sensors and atomizers.</p><div id="upworthyFreeStarVideoAdContainer"><div id="freestar-video-parent"><div id="freestar-video-child"></div></div></div>\n</blockquote><p class="p1"> We think <a href="http://www.good.is/post/good-guide-r-buckminster-fuller/">Bucky Fuller</a> would gives this contraption two big thumbs up.</p><p class="p1"> <em>Image via <a href="http://rad.daniels.utoronto.ca/2011/01/filtration-block/">RAD</a></em></p><br/><br/>
