Hugh Holland started photographing skateboarders on a sunny afternoon in 1975. During the next three years, he captured the experiences of various tribes of tawny, young revolutionaries, whose lives were shaped by the sun-bleached cement of Los Angeles's sprawling suburbs—from the San Fernando Valley to Venice Beach. Ammo Books's new retrospective Locals Only examines the emergences of the 1970s brand of Southern California skateboarding through Holland's unique lens, presenting a visual history of the essence of cool.
