The Trailer For Jordan Peele’s New Horror Film Has Audiences Freaked Out

It’s nothing like Comedy Central’s ‘Key and Peele’

The trailer for comedian Jordan Peele’s (Key and Peele, Keanu) latest film, Get Out, starts off looking like an interracial romance starring Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario) and Alison Williams (Girls). But when Kaluuya goes on a road trip to meet Williams’ parents he finds himself in a world that is terrifyingly hostile to people of color.

The film’s trailer has received kudos on social media for featuring an African-American actor in the lead role—a rarity for the horror genre. But it’s also causing a stir for taking on a host of controversial issues ripped directly from today’s headlines, including: white privilege, police brutality, classicism, interracial relationships, and ethnic stereotypes.

The trailer for Get Out is even more surprising given Peele’s history of working in comedy. “I’ve been wanting to do horror for a long time,” he told Forbes, “and luckily I’ve kind of gotten something of a training through comedy. I definitely felt confident in the fact that it’s a genre that all you need to work is the story and the scariness and the emotion. If you can get that you can make a decent movie in the genre.”

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the new trailer:
