Transparency: Obama’s Presidential Garden

Transparency: The First Garden

This March, to much fanfare, the Obamas planted a vegetable garden at the White House, the first one since Eleanor Roosevelt planted a victory garden there during World War II. Now, the garden is being harvested. So far, the garden has produced more than 90 pounds of produce which have been given to area soup kitchens and used in meals at the White House. Our latest Transparency is a look at what the Obamas’s garden will be growing this year. Maybe you can start your own and follow along.

I love that they planted a garden at the White House. The Bo graphic is a nice touch!

You guys, are crazy. You are running around with this Obama as with precious stone. Obama killed the fly – GREAT NEWS. Obama made a garden- MEGA REPORT. The fact that he is first black pres does not make him genius. He does not do anything right. He 100 days pres and unemployment is 9.5% two big car makers are bankrupt and belong to the government and unions – exactly two the same organizations who brought the GM and Chrysler in the position they are. The only thing you can talk about is OBAMA GARDENS. Such ignorance.

I think the garden is a great example & symbol of the importance of being connected to the soil & the growing of our food. I am surprised there are no tomatoes or corn, two of the best things eaten fresh off the plant. Some espaliered fruit trees would be nice too since the only thing perinneal is the rhubarb.

Nice work on this graphic, and congrats to the Obamas on setting a good example for the rest of the nation. We should all follow suit. Growing your own food reduces energy intensity, reduces your grocery bill (by a lot) and leads to better health (reducing your health care costs). This was originally a local, agricultural nation. We could do worse than bring back a little bit of that.

I can’t believe Stas comment. Obama is not a precious stone. Every presidency has its firsts and the garden is one of them. nice graphic very fun. As for him not doing anything right you are delusional if you think that anyone is going to undo eight years of government deregulation in 100 days. Goverment deregulation resulting in speculative corporate operations and over 10 years of inflated stock pricing (do you get that over 10 year without a significant stock market correction!) as well as many other issues that I am sure we have yet to uncover. We as a country should stop the blame game take responsibility for our actions and focus on the positive. The garden being one of them.
