Our world is grappling with critical issues: climate change, a surge in authoritarianism, and potential military conflicts. Amid these challenges, finding joy becomes essential, and actor Christopher Walken's dance moves offer a delightful escape.

A few years ago, an inspired editor at HuffPo Entertainment compiled a montage of Walken dancing across 50 of his films. Although initially removed, it resurfaced in 2014, brightening the world once again.

Walken gained renown through his compelling roles in “Annie Hall" (1977) and “The Deer Hunter" (1978). Thus, his tap dancing performance in 1981’s “Pennies from Heaven” with Steve Martin surprised many.

But Walken actually started his career in entertainment as a dancer. He took his first dance lessons at the age of three. “It was very typical for people—and I mean working-class people—to send their kids to dancing school," he told Interview Magazine. “You'd learn ballet, tap, acrobatics, usually you'd even learn to sing a song," he later explained to Interview magazine.

As a child, he also studied tap dance and toured in musicals. He even danced with a young Liza Minelli. “I'd been around dancers my whole life, having watched my parents make musicals at MGM, and Chris reminded me of so many of the dancers I knew growing up," Minelli said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “He's talented in every way."

Craig Zadan, Executive Producer of “Peter Pan Live!," agrees with Minelli. “I think that if he had been around in the heyday of MGM, he would have been a big star of musicals on film," he told Entertainment Weekly.

His dance moves were put center stage in 2001 in Spike Jonze's video for Fatboy Slim's song “Weapon of Choice." Walken says he did it because one day he'll be too old to cut a rug. “You think, 'Well, do it now!' You know, you get too decrepit to dance," he told Entertainment Weekly.

Scatman's 1994 hit finds a new generation after inspiring video about his stutter resurfaces

Perhaps the world wasn’t truly ready for Scatman John, the bespectacled jazz-scat singer armed with dance-pop beats and a message of unity. But for a brief period in the mid-90s, he nearly took over anyway. On paper, his breakout debut single, 1994’s "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)," seemed like a tough sell in an era of woolly post-grunge and bass-booming G-funk and squeaky-clean R&B balladry. But he still managed to worm his way onto the Billboard charts and into the hearts of fans charmed by his unlikely success story—including the fact that scat-singing helped him manage a lifelong stutter.

Featured on his debut album, 1995’s Scatman’s World, "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)" was a hit in numerous countries, even reaching No. 3 on the U.K. charts—a remarkable feat, given its unusual composition of scat-singing and pseudo-rapping. But none of the artist’s subsequent work achieved the same cultural impact, and, sadly, Scatman John died in 1999 at age 57, after being diagnosed with lung cancer. It’s rare to hear his signature song on the radio these days, though you do see it mentioned occasionally online—in 2017, for example, it appeared on Buzzfeed’s feature "The 101 Greatest Dance Songs Of the '90s." More recently, a resurfaced Scatman interview went viral on social media, introducing the track—and the meaning behind it—to a new audience.

Some of The Bee Gees’ most incredible live moments took place on television, with their songs stripped back to only sparse acoustic guitars and those radiant vocal harmonies. One such intimate performance took place during a March 1973 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, with the Gibb brothers dusting off their first No. 1 U.K. hit, the folky 1967 psych-pop anthem "Massachusetts."

This particular Carson episode gave The Bee Gees a massive showcase, totaling 19 minutes between their songs and interview. And that screen time was a valuable commodity for the trio in 1973: Their most recent LP, Life in a Tin Can, was a relative flop (only reaching No. 69 on the Billboard 200), and they were still a few years off from their monster disco era via the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Carson introduced them with enthusiasm, telling the audience, “My next guests have had quite a career, most successful as singers and songwriters, as well as their own hit recordings. Their compositions have been recorded by people like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Andy Williams, Glen Campbell, Tom Jones, hundreds of others."
