Juli Briskman found herself the subject of national attention after a bold, impromptu act made its way through social media and news channels. And while the spontaneous middle finger she raised towards President Donald Trump’s motorcade cost the woman her job, she has found herself the unsuspecting beneficiary of thousands of donations online.

While riding her bike, the 50-year-old marketing executive became the anonymous subject of both praise and condemnation after she clearly and definitively shot her middle finger to Trump’s passing motorcade on a road in Sterling, Virginia. Though the incident took place last month, it wasn’t until weeks later that her name became public, costing the Northern Virginia resident and mother of two her job following outrage directed at her employer online.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Briskman shared the details of her termination, recounting, “They said, ‘We’re separating from you.’” She continued, “Basically, you cannot have ‘lewd’ or ‘obscene’ things in your social media. So they were calling flipping him off ‘obscene.’”

While it appears she remains without employment following her firing, a GoFundMe campaign named “Thank You Juli Briskman” has raised over $60,000 (out of a goal of $100,000) in just seven days.

The brief message contained on the crowdfunding platform, written by the campaign creator, Rob Mello, reads:

“Juli Briskman is an inspiration to us all. This week we learned that she was fired from her employer for exercising her first amendment rights.

You can show your support by donating here.

I have connected with Juli and she has been officially setup as the beneficiary on this GoFundMe campaign.

All proceeds are being donated directly to Juli. As the campaign beneficiary, she will be able to post updates and comments, so stay tuned!”

Briskman may not be an inspiration to those in favor of Trump, but to the anti-Trump contingent, her act serves as a simple and iconic indictment of the president’s tenure thus far. She may be out of a job for her bold (and some would say profane) display toward the president, but she can take some comfort in knowing that in addition to serving as a minor hero to Trump critics, she’ll have some cash on hand while she seeks a new job.

  • Man’s dog suddenly becomes protective of his wife, Internet clocks the reason right away

Reddit user Girlfriendhatesmefor’s three-year-old pitbull, Otis, had recently become overprotective of his wife. So he asked the online community if they knew what might be wrong with the dog.

“A week or two ago, my wife got some sort of stomach bug,” the Reddit user wrote under the subreddit /r/dogs. “She was really nauseous and ill for about a week. Otis is very in tune with her emotions (we once got in a fight and she was upset, I swear he was staring daggers at me lol) and during this time didn’t even want to leave her to go on walks. We thought it was adorable!”

His wife soon felt better, butthe dog’s behavior didn’t change.

Girlfriendhatesmefor began to fear that Otis’ behavior may be an early sign of an aggression issue or an indication that the dog was hurt or sick.

So he threw a question out to fellow Reddit users: “Has anyone else’s dog suddenly developed attachment/aggression issues? Any and all advice appreciated, even if it’s that we’re being paranoid!”

The most popular response to his thread was by ZZBC.

Any chance your wife is pregnant?

The potential news hit Girlfriendhatesmefor like a ton of bricks. A few days later, Girlfriendhatesmefor posted an update and ZZBC was right!

“The wifey is pregnant!” the father-to-be wrote. “Otis is still being overprotective but it all makes sense now! Thanks for all the advice and kind words! Sorry for the delayed reply, I didn’t check back until just now!”

    Redditors responded with similar experiences.

Anecdotal I know but I swear my dog knew I was pregnant before I was. He was super clingy (more than normal) and was always resting his head on my belly.

So why do dogs get overprotective when someone is pregnant?

Jeff Werber, PhD, president and chief veterinarian of the Century Veterinary Group in Los Angeles, told Health.com that “dogs can also smell the hormonal changes going on in a woman’s body at that time.” He added the dog may “not understand that this new scent of your skin and breath is caused by a developing baby, but they will know that something is different with you—which might cause them to be more curious or attentive.”

The big lesson here is to listen to your pets and to ask questions when their behavior abruptly changes. They may be trying to tell you something, and the news may be life-changing.
