These images are basically like downloading a National Geographic magazine straight to your brain.

Every year, the Siena International Photo Awards brings together some of the world's most amazing photographers. Their mission? Use the power of the photograph to encourage a greater understanding of the world’s places, populations, and people.

2017 saw thousands upon thousands of entries from photographers all around the world, and in October, the judges announced their winners. From sleepy bears to quiet treks across the snow, each of these images captures something astounding, magical, true, or important about the world.

Forming good habits and sticking to them requires time, dedication, and consistency. Anyone who has tried to stick to a New Year's resolution, health plan, or other self-improvement goal knows it is not easy. You would probably rather spend your time catching up on your favorite reality TV show, playing games on your phone, or doing something you would actually enjoy. Well, one doctor and her peers say, "Why not do both?"

On social media, Sohee Carpenter, a fitness coach with a PhD in sports science and an MS in psychology, recommended a technique known as "temptation bundling," which pairs less enjoyable habits or chores with something you enjoy to make them easier to complete.

A racist slur on an oil change sticker led to an unbelievable act of kindness

When 33-year-old Mikayala Starks took her vehicle for a routine oil change at Kunes Buick GMC in Oak Creek, she was left devastated by an employee's hateful act.

As she recalled to PEOPLE, it wasn't until later that day that she looked at the service sticker and made a shocking discovery. “While they were supposed to be servicing my car, an employee typed up a racial slur [the n-word] and put it in the comment section of my oil change sticker,” Starks said.

Teacher shatters Guinness World Record after working at the same high school for 61 years

As a kid, did you ever think about breaking a world record? If you did, you likely found that doing so takes skill, talent, and, in most cases, time. One woman set a Guinness World Record by dedicating her life to educating children in her community. Glenda Akin earned the title after teaching for 61 years and 43 days.

Starting her career in 1963 at Westmoreland High School in Tennessee and retiring in 2024, Akin set the female world record for the longest teaching career at the same school. She beat the previous male record holder, Paul Durietz, by seven years and became the overall record holder. Akin served Westmoreland High School as both a teacher and a librarian throughout her tenure.
