From The Washington Post: Historians speak out against proposed Texas textbook changes

Historians on Tuesday criticized proposed revisions to the Texas social studies curriculum, saying that many of the changes are historically inaccurate and that they would affect textbooks and classrooms far beyond the state's borders.

From The New York Times: Detroit Plan Would Close 45 Schools

The move is the latest effort aimed at rescuing an academically failing district in the midst of a financial crisis. Only 3 percent of Detroit fourth graders were proficient in math on the last National Assessment of Educational Progress, an annual test of basic skills. The district is the largest in Michigan, with 87,000 students, most of whom are poor and black.

Fewer Hispanic students earned degrees even at both competitive and less competitive colleges nationwide, the American Enterprise Institute found.
