Girl Power

  • Posted by: GOOD , Open

Only 10 countries—Finland, Jamaica and Germany among them—have female heads of state. GOOD and Open take a look at the gender imbalance among the world’s leaders.

See the Girl Power transparency.

My take on Pratibha Patil. The situation is just looking much better now.

a little bit more perspective might help too. There are two great comparative bar graphs at the bottom of the article. But I’d love to see one more showing the percentage of the world population LED by women. The fact that only five percent of the world leaders are women is daunting enough, but I’m willing to bet the percentage of the world population that they head is closer to 2 or 3 percent (I’m thinking India, China, etc. here).

    Thanks for the great post!

Israel has had one female prime minister and elected one in the lastest elections however, due to coalition politics, she was set aside.
