Medical News Today reports on the well known piece of gardener's folklore that Bounce repels bugs. HortScience, the online magazine of the American Society for Horticultural Science has published proof that Bounce, does indeed repel bugs, especially gnats and mosquitoes. The author of the study, Kansas State University Entomology Professor Raymond Cloyd said:
This study is the first to demonstrate that Bounce original brand fabric softener dryer sheets repel fungus gnat adults under laboratory conditions.
Bad news for mosquitoes but good news for gardeners and potentially down the road, malaria-prone countries.
