The White House and GOOD Ask: What Healthy Kid App Would You Design?

Following yesterday's shout-out, the White House and GOOD are officially joining forces to ask: What kind of healthy kid app would you like to see developed?

As part of the First Lady's Let's Move campaign, which hopes to eradicate childhood obesity within a generation, today Michelle Obama announced the Apps for Healthy Kids competition run the USDA. The contest will help to encourage innovative design and development, with up to $40,000 in cash prizes.

In a speech today before the National Parent Teacher Association, she pledged a "all-star panel of judges," including a co-founder of Apple and leaders in the world of gaming, technology, and nutrition:

And I know there's some people in the room thinking, oh, sure, Michelle Obama–she can't relate, she lives in the White House. And I'll be the first to say that I know I am blessed today with more help and support than I ever could have dreamed of. So don't hate.

Developer or not, we want to hear your ideas. This week, the White House is teaming up with GOOD.

And a little more on the contest: "Apps for Healthy Kids challenges software developers, game designers, students, and other innovators to develop fun and engaging tools and games that drive children, especially "tweens" (ages 9-12)–directly or through their parents–to eat better and be more physically active."
