Old houses are akin to mysteries where creepy secrets lurk. Walls have ears, doors have eyes, and strange things are prowling in the attics. When Emily Jean Henry (@funkyglassworks), a glasswork artist, bought a new Arkansas house built in the 1980s, she too discovered a secret lurking in the interiors. In a TikTok video, she revealed that her family had come across a full-fledgling swimming pool covered entirely by the floorboards of a room. It wasn’t until they ripped up the room’s floors that they found they were standing on top of a 12-ft deep hole.

“Guess what we found under the floor of the house we just bought,” Emily said in the video while showcasing a room with a floor made of glazed wood. In further frames of the video, she is seen ripping apart the floorboards, underneath which lay a sight that stupefied her and her family. Under the floorboards lay hidden an entire indoor swimming pool complete with a hot tub.

The video has racked up over 12 million views. People shared both wonder and surprise at the bizarre discovery. “Not in a million years I thought it was a pool,” commented @alinedalavale. “If you are turning that into a pond, seriously consider building an aquaponics system to grow your own food,” @earthling311 suggested. Others cooked up spooky scenarios, saying that something sinister must have happened in the pool, that it was covered up. @reverandtitbag said, “I’d be scared that someone drowned in it and now I have ghosts!” @poppy.palazzolo was reminded of the setting in the horror movie “Conjuring” after seeing the video.

According to Newsweek, Emily and her family thought that the pool made by the previous homeowners was covered up. “When we were buying this house we were told that at one point in this custom-built house, there was an indoor swimming pool, but that the pool was gone and that they had turned the swimming pool into a ginormous game room,” said Emily. They thought that the pool was filled up but their close inspection revealed something astonishing. “It said that this game room floor was wavy.”

In a later TikTok update, Emily explained that she was going to convert the pool into something else. “Although lots of you wanted to see this restored into [a] pool,” said Emily in the video. “We decided that being surrounded by these crystal clear lakes and being such outdoorsy people, it wouldn’t make sense for us to have an indoor pool.” At last, she and her husband decided to refurbish the pool into an atrium and koi pond. Being a glass artist, she said, “I hope to fill this room with stained glass, lots and lots of plants, and a small little koi pond for us to enjoy. We’re going to get so much use out of this room, and I literally cannot wait to have a place to escape to.”

Following this, Emily created a whole new series called “Pool Saga” with videos based on the discovery and renovation of this pool. “It’s going to take a lot of work, professional guidance, and $$$ to turn this into anything but we are excited about the possibilities,” Emily said in one video. In another update, she said, “It is now our plant room. We have added lots of plants. We still have lots of work to do. We will be adding plants for many years to come. We have brought in some cool additions like this window that reflects rainbows on plants every afternoon. Then, we have been slowly filling things up. I’ve grabbed a ton of rock. Fishes in the pond.”

In a video of the Pool Saga series, the camera displays a scintillating sight of sunlight filtering into the place where the pool was, and casting brilliant light patterns all around. “I love when the morning lights hit the pond and make the light refract and dance across the ceiling,” she wrote in the caption. “We’re getting pretty close to doing a little room reveal on this project. We’ll be adding plants for many years to come, but our little oasis is really starting to come to life.”

  • ‘But you already helped me’: Elderly woman floored as landscaper reveals $625K GoFundMe in her name
Photo credit: Photo credt: SB Mowing – Spencer mowed her lawn for free and changed her life.

An elderly woman in Wichita, Kansas who was experiencing hard times has now found hope in the kindness of others. It first started when a local landscaper decided to mow and clean up her overgrown lawn for free. Since then, she’s been given $625,000 in donations (and counting!) to help address her needs and raise her spirits.

It all started with Spencer B. of SB Mowing, a lawn care and pressure washing company. Spencer (who wishes his last name be omitted) runs his business both as a mower and as a content creator. He often offers his services for free to the elderly and veterans who cannot afford the upkeep of their lawns.

Spencer visited the elderly woman, Debbie, after Zach, her Uber driver, contacted him. Zach had seen how much she was struggling on her own and wanted to help. As Spencer and his dad cut Debbie’s lawn and cleared debris, they heard her story.

    Debbie’s grief and relief

Debbie had been the full-time caregiver for her ailing husband until he died from stage four pancreatic cancer. Since then, her grief and other factors had prevented her from keeping up her home, lawn, and her own health. Struggle upon struggle was placed upon her.

“While she was grieving, she was also being taken advantage of,” Spencer wrote on Debbie’s GoFundMe. “A contractor took a $2,000 deposit for tree work and never showed up. A neighbor wrecked her car and didn’t pay for it. She fell three months behind on rent, put off dental and health care she genuinely needs, and there were days when she and her dogs went without food because she simply couldn’t afford it.”

Aside from free lawn care, Spencer decided to help Debbie get back on track. He and his dad bought everything from Debbie’s yard sale and donated it all to Habitat for Humanity to get her some cash in hand. Spencer also paid three months of Debbie’s back rent through his non-profit organization SB Mow It Forward.

    Strangers donated to Debbie

Spencer then set up a GoFundMe for Debbie and shared her story. Within three days, friends and strangers alike donated over $625,000. Donations continue to roll in as of this writing. All of the money will be put into a trust for Debbie to use for essentials, medical care, dental care, and to help her transition to a senior living community when she is ready.

Spencer shared a video of him telling Debbie this news. She was floored when she found out that around 40 million people had seen the video of Spencer cleaning up her yard, and she had no idea he had set up a GoFundMe.

“I thought you already helped me,” Debbie said, welling with emotion. “I can’t believe it. How can people be so generous to help a stranger?”

With tears in her eyes, Debbie thanked Spencer, Zach, and all the 13,000 people who had donated to help her. Spencer even made a video to highlight Zach, as he was the one who brought Debbie’s troubles to Spencer’s attention.

SB Mowing’s history of helping neighbors

This isn’t the only time Spencer’s deeds have made headlines. In 2024, he had raised $242,000 for a pet rescue that treated a cat he found while mowing a lawn. In 2025, he raised $850,000 to help Beth, an elderly woman in need of financial aid and accessibility care.

A lot of good can happen if we check in on our neighbors (and maybe offer to cut their lawns) every once in a while.

Arizona firefighter donates her kidney to a fellow firefighter—her husband

Husband and wife firefighters go through a kidney transplant together.

Firefighter Maddie Geer was shocked when she heard the news. Another firefighter was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure out of nowhere. She rushed to volunteer her kidney to save her colleague’s life. That colleague also happened to be her husband.

Geer and her husband, Robert Coleman Jr., fell in love while training to become firefighters at different stations. Last year, they got married. This year, after visiting a doctor to address fatigue issues, Coleman found that he was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease.

    It was a total surprise

“What really threw us for a loop, though, is the fire department does very thorough physicals, and nothing was caught with my blood pressure,” Coleman told Action News 5. “Blood pressure was good when I was going into my doctor’s meetings, but at night, my blood pressure was just going out of control. So, that’s what the scary part is.”

Not only that, but Coleman had stage five kidney failure. He needed a new kidney as soon as possible. Geer leapt to volunteer.

“Ever since he got diagnosed with it, I was like‚ ’If I’m a match, it’s meant to be because I’m going to give you my kidney,’” said Geer.

“(Maddie) was just itching to help me in any kind of way. It ended up being the most miraculous way,” Coleman told 12 News.

    A perfect match

Geer took the necessary tests and found she was a perfect donor match for her husband. They underwent the transplant to rounds of cheers from friends, family, and hospital workers. After the transplant, Coleman immediately felt the change.

“Once I saw him, he looked like a new person,” said Geer. “His face was lit up; he had a smile I hadn’t seen in a while.”

“I felt alive again,” he said. “She gave me a chance at a second life.”

While the two are itching to get back to their jobs, they have to wait until they’re fully recovered. Knowing that taking the proper time off to heal impacts their income, Geer’s sister Caitlyn has set up a GoFundMe for the couple. The money will be used to help with household expenses and follow-up doctor’s visits.

Check for signs, see your doctor regularly

There’s one thing that Robert Coleman Jr. hopes people do after hearing his story. He’s advocating that everyone gets their annual physical and regular checkups with their doctors.

“No one is invincible, and I learned the hard way,” he said.

It’s important to be mindful and alert about any changes in your body. The signs for kidney disease can be pretty mundane. Symptoms include swelling in the ankles and feet, frequent urination, and trouble sleeping among others. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s probably best to check with your doctor. It may be scary, but it’s best address any issue you may experience for the best chance of an optimal outcome.

  • After 40 years in a Portuguese circus, elephant retires to become the first resident of a new sanctuary
Photo credit: Pangea Elephant Sanctuary/YouTube – Julie at the Pangea Elephant Sanctuary.

Around 40 years ago, a young elephant named Julie was captured in Africa. Since 1988, she has performed with the Victor Hugo Cardinali Circus. Now, as the last circus elephant in Portugal, she’s finally getting the retirement she deserves—becoming the first resident of the Pangea Elephant Sanctuary.

In 2018, Portugal officially banned wild animals from performing in circuses. The law was fully implemented in 2024 with the circus’s full cooperation. Since then, the circus has continued caring for Julie while Pangea built a home for her and other elephants.

Getting Julie to her new home

“This has not been an easy decision, as she has been a member of our family for nearly forty years,” Vítor Hugo Cardinali told The Portugal News. “But we believe it is the right decision for Julie. Working with Pangea on her transition to her new home was a critical factor in our deliberations.”

Now Julie is enjoying mud baths and her new surroundings at the sanctuary in Alentejo, Portugal. Pangea’s officials hope to make Julie’s final years the best they can provide.

“We cannot be sure; elephants in the wild live for more than 70 years,” Kate Moore, Pangea’s director-general, told The Associated Press. “Unfortunately, elephants born in captivity have half the life expectancy of an elephant born in the wild, so we cannot know exactly how much time she has left. She has had a hard life, but I must say she has been very energetic at Pangea this week, so we remain hopeful.”

    About the sanctuary

The elephant sanctuary spans 400 hectares and is designed to welcome up to 30 elephants, giving them space to live and thrive. Later in 2026, the sanctuary will welcome a second elephant, Kariba, who is also around 40 years old and currently lives at a zoo in Belgium. Until more elephants arrive, socialize, and get settled, the sanctuary will remain closed to visitors.

Students adopt and support Julie’s new living space

Julie also has some little human friends cheering her on as she settles into her new home. The pupils at Wenhaston Primary School near Halesworth, Suffolk, England, are keeping track of Julie’s progress during their science lessons. After learning about Julie’s life in the circus, they wanted to show their support. They were delighted to hear that Julie was enjoying her new life at the sanctuary.

“I was a bit upset that Julie was taken away from her mum when she was really young,” 9-year-old Mars told BBC News. “[I am] really happy [she’s been given a new life] because in the wild it’s their natural habitat. I think she feels really happy.”

The children’s teacher, Emma Skinner, added, “[The students are] just completely in love with the fact that she’s been released and is in a wonderful place, doing all these wonderful things that she’s not been able to do for such a long time.”

With the support of schoolchildren, her former trainer, and Pangea, Julie’s golden years are looking brighter than ever.
