The vice presidential candidates are squaring off on stage right now. And while the discussion so far has been far more low-key than their top-of-the-ticket counterparts, it hasn’t been without some heated moments. In fact, the line of the night so far has to go to the debate moderator, Elaine Quijano, who, trying to stop the candidates from talking over each other said:
“The American people cannot understand either one of you when you talk over each other.”

TIM KAINE:
–“The thought of Donald Trump as commander-in-chief scares us to death.”
–On Trump’s tax returns: “If he ever met his promise and released his tax returns we’d see just how much of his tax plan is a Trump first plan.”
–On Trump’s insults: “You can’t have someone at the Trump who demeans at every opportunity.”
–On gun rights: “I’m a gun owner. I’m a strong Second Amendment supporter. But I’ve got a lot of scar tissue.”
–On police shootings: “People shouldn’t be afraid to bring up issues of bias in law enforcement.”
MIKE PENCE:
–On Trump’s tax returns: “He used the tax code just the way it’s supposed to be used. He did it brilliantly.”
–On why both Trump and Clinton are seen as untrustworthy by a majority of voters: “There’s a reason why people question the trustworthiness of Hillary Clinton. That’s because they’re paying attention.”
–On Kaine’s voting record: “I think he’s a very fitting running mate for Hillary Clinton. … Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine want more of the same.”
–On Trump’s love of off the cuff disparaging comments: “The campaign of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine has been an avalanche of insults.”
