The Wall Street Journal talks to Estee Lauder's John Demsey about Lady Gaga's contribution to the MAC AIDS fund.

The Grammy winning singer is the 2011 spokesperson for Viva Glam Lipstick, which gives 100 percent of its sales directly to charity.

But if you're wondering why conservative Estee Lauder brand would choose Lady Gaga, the answer is simple. According to Dempsey, last year she and Cindi Lauper raised $34 million for the lipstick (in a recession) which was the same amount of money they raised in 10 earlier years of the campaign with seven different celebrities. With Lady Gaga, Estee Lauder hopes to raise $250 million by 2012.
