Confident woman with a large facial scar reveals how she handles rude comments

Kate Bogner is currently making waves online for her refreshing and unapologetic stance on body confidence. As a child, Bogner was diagnosed with a rare condition called scleroderma en coup de sabre. According to the National Scleroderma Foundation, the name translates to “the cut of a sabre,” which describes the appearance of the scar on the skin. While the foundation notes that the causes of this autoimmune disease are unknown, the physical impact can be life-altering, particularly when it affects the face.

Now in remission and working as a holistic health coach, Bogner is using her platform to address the unwanted attention her scar often attracts. In a recent video that is resonating with thousands, Bogner revealed that she has frequently been told to "get bangs" to hide the line running through her forehead. Her response is a masterclass in self-worth.

A giant star is changing before our eyes and astronomers are watching in real time

For decades, astronomers have been watching WOH G64, an enormous heavyweight star in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a galaxy visible with the naked eye from the Southern Hemisphere. This star is more than 1,500 times larger than the Sun and emitting over 100,000 times more energy. For a long time, red supergiant WOH G64 looked like a star steadily reaching the end of its life, shedding material and swelling in size as it began to run out of fuel.

Astronomers didn’t think its final demise would happen anytime soon, because no-one has ever seen a known red supergiant die. But in recent years astronomers – including our team working with the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) – discovered that this star has started to change, growing dimmer than before and seemingly warmer. This has surprised scientists and suggests the star’s final stages of life may be more complicated, and perhaps unfold faster, than once thought.

These pursuits are different from casual hobbies in several ways. They require participation over longer periods, which makes people who practice them more skilled and more connected with the activity over time. The driving force for casual leisure is having fun; when a participant becomes more focused on accomplishment and improving their skills, the pursuit can gradually become more serious.

Chinese study says early maternal touch may encourage social behavior and empathy in teenagers

According to parents and physicians alike, physical touch and contact with infants and toddlers provide important benefits for both the mind and body. Even without scientific evidence, cuddle time, hugs, and other forms of physical affection between mother and child simply feel good. That said, a study in China suggests that maternal touch during those early years may benefit children well into their teenage years.

The study, authored by Kuo Zhang and Jinlong Su, examined whether there were links between early childhood maternal touch and prosocial behavior later in life. In the study, maternal touch was defined as physical contact initiated by the mother toward her child, including cuddling, skin-to-skin contact, holding, and gentle stroking.
