You may not know this by looking at them, but those lovely orange butterflies in your garden are secretly some of the coolest creatures on earth.
Monarch butterflies have one of the most remarkable migration patterns on earth. Their annual trip takes them from as far north as Canada all the way down to Mexico where they hibernate for the winter in fir and pine forests.
Surprisingly, this massive journey is not completed by any single monarch. It takes three to four generations of butterflies to travel as far as 3,000 miles. Yet despite their resilience and incredible physical qualities, these astonishing creatures are in serious danger.
