Running has always been a huge part of my life. More than 10 years ago, I began developing running events. In an effort to create a non-threatening running environment and to celebrate the joy of physical activity, I created The Color Run. The Color Run, also known as the ‘Happiest 5k on the Planet,’ is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, and individuality. The event is a five-kilometer, untimed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in color – creating happiness and lasting memories. The idea caught on and today The Color Run is the largest event series in the nation.

As a for-profit event management company, we are excited about our partnership with Global Citizen because it gives our Color Runners the opportunity to be involved in an exceptionally important cause: ending extreme poverty. Together we will give thousands of Color Runners the chance to show what they are #RunningFor by engaging in the Global Citizen movement and helping to bring the end of extreme poverty by 2030. After registering for select The Color Run events through June 2014, participants can visit the Run for a Reason platform, where they can register and fundraise for incredible charities such as: U.S. Fund for UNICEF, World Food Program USA, charity: water, Cotton On Foundation, Malaria No More, and CARE. Together, Color Runners can have an incredible impact for the world’s poor, while helping to spread the message that nobody should have to live in extreme poverty. As Global Citizens, each of us can have an impact.

Color Runners’ celebration of happiness, healthiness, and individuality is the essence of being a Global Citizen. The Run for a Reason platform connects runners with some of the leading charities doing good around the world. For example, World Food Program USA supports the World Food Program, which is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger that reached more than 97 million people in 80 countries with food assistance in 2012 alone. The Cotton On Foundation is working to increase access to education for 20,000 children in Southern Uganda by 2020. Malaria No More is working to end malaria deaths by delivering life-saving tests and treatments, and education to families across Africa. And charity: water makes clean and safe water available to people in the poorest communities in the world. Color Runners can support the work of these and other charities by fundraising on their personalized page on the Run For a Reason platform, which provides extensive resources to help runners with fundraising and social media.

Runners can tell the world what they are #RunningFor to help raise awareness about extreme poverty issues. Sree Bodepudi, a Color Runner in Chicago who raised funds for U.S. Fund for UNICEF, explained that “The Color Run was an absolutely fantastic event and created such a memorable experience for me. The best part about it was being able to have a great time while making an impact and changing the lives of others.”

Show your true colors by joining us at The Color Run, becoming a Global Citizen and registering to fundraise on the Run for a Reason platform. Together we can help end extreme poverty by 2030.

  • Man’s dog suddenly becomes protective of his wife, Internet clocks the reason right away

Reddit user Girlfriendhatesmefor’s three-year-old pitbull, Otis, had recently become overprotective of his wife. So he asked the online community if they knew what might be wrong with the dog.

“A week or two ago, my wife got some sort of stomach bug,” the Reddit user wrote under the subreddit /r/dogs. “She was really nauseous and ill for about a week. Otis is very in tune with her emotions (we once got in a fight and she was upset, I swear he was staring daggers at me lol) and during this time didn’t even want to leave her to go on walks. We thought it was adorable!”

His wife soon felt better, butthe dog’s behavior didn’t change.

Girlfriendhatesmefor began to fear that Otis’ behavior may be an early sign of an aggression issue or an indication that the dog was hurt or sick.

So he threw a question out to fellow Reddit users: “Has anyone else’s dog suddenly developed attachment/aggression issues? Any and all advice appreciated, even if it’s that we’re being paranoid!”

The most popular response to his thread was by ZZBC.

Any chance your wife is pregnant?

The potential news hit Girlfriendhatesmefor like a ton of bricks. A few days later, Girlfriendhatesmefor posted an update and ZZBC was right!

“The wifey is pregnant!” the father-to-be wrote. “Otis is still being overprotective but it all makes sense now! Thanks for all the advice and kind words! Sorry for the delayed reply, I didn’t check back until just now!”

    Redditors responded with similar experiences.

Anecdotal I know but I swear my dog knew I was pregnant before I was. He was super clingy (more than normal) and was always resting his head on my belly.

So why do dogs get overprotective when someone is pregnant?

Jeff Werber, PhD, president and chief veterinarian of the Century Veterinary Group in Los Angeles, told Health.com that “dogs can also smell the hormonal changes going on in a woman’s body at that time.” He added the dog may “not understand that this new scent of your skin and breath is caused by a developing baby, but they will know that something is different with you—which might cause them to be more curious or attentive.”

The big lesson here is to listen to your pets and to ask questions when their behavior abruptly changes. They may be trying to tell you something, and the news may be life-changing.

Why mass shootings spawn conspiracy theories

Mass shootings and conspiracy theories have a long history.

While conspiracy theories are not limited to any topic, there is one type of event that seems particularly likely to spark them: mass shootings, typically defined as attacks in which a shooter kills at least four other people.

When one person kills many others in a single incident, particularly when it seems random, people naturally seek out answers for why the tragedy happened. After all, if a mass shooting is random, anyone can be a target.

Pointing to some nefarious plan by a powerful group – such as the government – can be more comforting than the idea that the attack was the result of a disturbed or mentally ill individual who obtained a firearm legally.
