If you ever wanted to walk in Bernie Madoff's shoes, or just make a really authentic "ponzi schemer" Halloween costume, now's your chance. This Saturday in New York, U.S. Marshals will be auctioning more than 400 items that belonged to former financial adviser Bernie Madoff.
"These pieces are the last of what once occupied the homes and lives of Bernard and Ruth's residences in New York city and Montauk, New York," said Joseph R. Guccione, the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of New York according to ABC.
The 72-year-old swindler was sentenced to 150 years in prison, but his victims are still hoping to recoup whatever they can of the $65 billion he made disappear. A previous auction of his property raised $1 million.
CNN has a fantastic narrative of the full Bernie Madoff story. But for a visual glimpse of where the money went, click through our slideshow of Madoff's possessions on the auction block Saturday.
This piece (above) is the jewel of the lot (not counting the real jewels) for its personality and symbolism. A leather bull foot stool (tail needs to be re-attached), made in Italy in 1927. It is 5.5 inches long and 2.75 inches tall, a humble size for a man who fabricated outsized bull markets for his clients for so many years.
