If you’ve never heard of Circle Rules Football, you’re not alone. This whimsical game, played on a circular field with a yoga ball, was created by avant garde theater students two years ago as a final class project. Since then, this high-energy sport has bounced out of the classroom and onto the playing field, winning over converts from Maine to Florida and evolving with each game played. Is it a legitimate sport with staying power or the next generation of performance art? Only time will tell.

    This looks a lot like “Spartan Madball” which was invented at St. John’s College (Santa Fe NM and Annapolis MD) and has been played at the annual Reality Festival for ages. One thing, you shouldn’t be wearing shoes in this game.KJGarvey SF ‘90
