There’s an Awesome New E-waste Bill in the Senate

When our computers, cell phones, and other electronic gadgets break or become obsolete they usually end up in landfills. This “e-waste” is sometimes toxic and usually contains valuable components that don’t get salvaged or recycled. Now there’s a bill in the Senate that would address the problem.
It’s the Electronic Device Recycling Research and Development Act. Ars Technica has a post on the bill:
The research aims of the bill fall into three broad categories: to figure out how best to deal with the e-waste already out there, to “develop and demonstrate environmentally friendly alternatives to the use of hazardous and potentially hazardous materials in electronic devices and the production of such devices,” and to “reconsider product design and assembly to facilitate and improve refurbishment, reuse, and recycling of electronic devices, including an emphasis on design for recycling.”
