Did Germans Really Eat Ox Blood and Peroxide?

Ptak Science Books has a graphical display from The Illustrated London News in 1918 showing the ingenious ways Germans got around not having certain foodstuffs—or at least the ways that British propagandists said they did. A "War Sausage" was coagulated ox blood bleached with peroxide. "Vegetable" meat was dyed glucose.
