Last year, Japanese experimental noise rock craziness Boredoms made us feel really special when they orchestrated a circle of 77 drummers to perform 77 minutes of drum noise on 7/7/07. About 77,777 people showed up and the line to get in was like, oh, 7 hours long, but it was such a novel thing, it was worth it.
And as they kept pointing out, 7/7/07 only happens once a century.
It didn't really seem to occur to any of us at the time, but so does 8/8/08. And 9/9/09. And, you know, a couple more digits after that.
This year, on 8/8/08 at 8:08 p.m., the Boredoms team up with a similarly quirky collective Gang Gang Dance on the Williamsburg waterfront in NYC and, trans-USA, artistic director Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle in the La Brea tar pits in L.A. where they'll host 88 drummers for 88 minutes. Welcome to 88BoaDrum.
