88 Drummers on 8/8/08

Last year, Japanese experimental noise rock craziness Boredoms made us feel really special when they orchestrated a circle of 77 drummers to perform 77 minutes of drum noise on 7/7/07. Last year, Japanese experimental noise rock craziness Boredoms made us feel really special when they orchestrated a circle of 77 drummers to perform 77 minutes of drum noise on 7/7/07. About 77,777 people showed up and the line to get in was like, oh, 7 hours long, but it was such a novel thing, it was worth it.

And as they kept pointing out, 7/7/07 only happens once a century.

It didn't really seem to occur to any of us at the time, but so does 8/8/08. And 9/9/09. And, you know, a couple more digits after that.

This year, on 8/8/08 at 8:08 p.m., the Boredoms team up with a similarly quirky collective Gang Gang Dance on the Williamsburg waterfront in NYC and, trans-USA, artistic director Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle in the La Brea tar pits in L.A. where they'll host 88 drummers for 88 minutes. Welcome to 88BoaDrum.

Tickets are free (thanks Nike, hmm), and available here or at the super-hippest record stores on each coast.
