Take this video tour of the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, an 80-acre farm, educational center, and restaurant in Pocantico Hills, New York. The film, made by Local Projects, shows an idyllic view of agriculture that makes sustainable farming look sexy. Seriously, I think a shot of a carrot being slowly extracted from the earth is rated PG-13.

Only 25 minutes north of New York City, Stone Barns is located within 30 miles of 30 million people, making it uniquely poised to feed and educate a large local population. A mentorship program educates local workers in food production and preparation, which can bolster the economy. And for schoolchildren who travel there from urban areas, it's possibly the first time they've ever seen where their food comes from. In fact, it's that attachment to a specific location like Stone Barns that helps cement healthy food habits, says Dan Barber, co-owner and chef of Blue Hill, the restaurant on the property. "You need to be inspired by a place and have a place become part of the experience."
