In the runup to Sunday night's premiere of Treme, David Simon's new HBO series based in New Orleans, the good folks over at Learning Matters have got you covered when it comes to understanding the post-Katrina Big Easy.
For PBS' NewsHour, they produced a multi-part series on how Paul Vallas, superintendent of New Orleans' Recovery School District, is tasked with turning around the city's storm ravaged schools.
They recently featured Treme castmember, Ameer Baraka, a native New Orleanian, who, when he's not on set, mentors local teens David and Jermaine, guiding them away from a life of incarceration and drug use.
