This week's most popular post is A Spoonful of Sustainability by Adam Starr. The post addressed disposable utensils and their impact on the environment. Starr wrote, "The average plastic fork is only used for three minutes before it's thrown away. Three minutes of usefulness leads to 10,000 years in a landfill or a swirling eternity in an ocean gyre."To help address this problem, Stephanie Bernstein of Berkeley, California started the company To-Go Ware. They produce utensils made of sustainable bamboo to alleviate the amount of waste plastic utensil use has created. The post was a call for awareness. Bernstein pointed out, "Look at your average Whole Foods customer, here are all of these people who put solar panels on their roof, they are composting their food, they are already living a green lifestyle, and then they hit the salad bar and toss out their forks."Commenter Lucy wrote, "I had no idea how wasteful we have been," and mollie petersen commented, "I am baffled how acceptable it is to use-and-toss. I'm glad that companies are coming up with ways to overcome our wasteful habits!"For more on sustainability: Our 10 Favorite Innovations for Reducing Plastic Waste, Tips on How to Reduce Food Packaging Waste
