The last time I did good
For the last seven months I’ve been working to build an outreach program in my company. They have given before to multiple charities, but I felt it was important to create something we could put our stamp on in our industry focusing on sustainability for the home. Just yesterday we were discussing our third stage: marketing. It’s amazing how a little idea that popped in my head is becoming more fleshed out.
A ‘Do’ I want to share with the world
If you’re not completely satisfied with certain things in your life, I would recommend looking to “do” something in your community. Giving back is the best way to satisfy that little burning in your stomach that says, “I’m bored.”
Book I’d recommend
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. I would suggest reading his book, Blink, before Outliers though.
Something I was wrong about
My capabilities. I either spread myself too thin in my commitments, or don’t know my full potential.
What you should care about right now
The city of Detroit. I’ve been reading a lot about how the city is rebuilding itself, and how young professionals are being encouraged to take in the city rather than move all the way to Silicon Valley. I think what Detroit is trying to do is the retelling of the “American Dream”.
My biggest goal for 2014
I’m a giving person. That will never change. However, my biggest goal this year is to do more for myself. I already make sure when I’m not traveling for work to do yoga at least five times a week because I need it. I might even relax during the weekend. With a brain that is constantly moving, I’m trying to slow down and take in what I already have and accomplished.
